During hot weather, the skin can act up and you can find yourself having odd bumps, some itchy skin rashes and various symptoms. One thing to be aware of is that if you have a summer cold or respiratory infection and are taking an antibiotic, you can get a skin reaction if you are allergic. When we are sick, it is hard to know if the rash is due to being sick or if it’s the medication itself. Ask your doctor about this . Some people will also get hives or other reactions to foods.

In addition, if your child goes to summer camp, really anything can occur! When I went to sleep away camp for 3 years there were problems with impetigo, lice rashes and mites. Pictures of scabies reveal that the rash can look like chicken pox, pimples or a variety of common rashes. And you cannot see the mites as they are invisible to the eye due to size. Another rash during the summer is heat rash as well as reactions to swimming pools and jacuzzis. As fun as the summer can be, it can be a skin nightmare at times!

Of course, sun bathing as a whole other set of patterns. Getting a sun rash is not fun. Going in the ocean can result in sea lice, jellyfish attacks and other critters. Some people also may be using a sun tan lotion that does not agree with their skin. Applying miracle ii gel is excellent for many skin irritations.

Finally, beware of picnics where foods are left out in the heat for too long. This can result in both digestive issues, food poisoning and skin problems. Despite all of this, summer is the favorite time of year for most people and a much more stress-free feeling. This is because people enjoy walking in the evening, going to parks and not hiding out in the house due to inclement weather problems. It has been hot in the US all around the country in May so let’s see how the rest of the summer turns out.

I wrote in a previous post about Estrogen and Moisturizers from the research of Dr. Adrienne Olson who had 16 moisturizers analyzed at a lab and found that six had estrogen compounds in them. Since she is a breast cancer survivor this was very valuable information.

I am still not clear on why this isn’t put on the label. Dr. Olson said, “”No one could tell from reading the ingredients that the products contained estrogenic hormones.” In fact, it was due to her own experiences with chemo and her skin getting dryer that she used a moisturizer that helped to stimulate the research. She discovered that using the moisturizer that her skin was significantly improved. This made her think about estrogen which is known to reduce signs of aging.

Please research whatever moisturizer you choose. Miracle II Moisturizer does not use preservatives and hence it is recommended to use it within 180 days of opening it. Look into natural oils and simple recipes you can put together on your own as well.

It can be eye opening to see how much acidic food we put in our system. I know lots of people that seem to be self-conscious but still find that they crave a lot of acidic types of foods.

Do you know your ph? By getting ph strips at a pharmacy, pool store or lab you can test your urine in the moring and see it’s range. A good range is between 6.5 and 7.2. Most of are too acidic. When we are too acidic, the body takes minerals from important organs and our bones to neutralize the acid.

These minerals can include calcium, sodium, potassium and magenesium. Though we may not notice it, an overly acidic situation can develop in time into various symptoms and problems.

In the Book Alkalize or Die , Dr. Theodore A. Baroody says ,”The countless names of illnesses do not really matter. What does matter is that they all come from the same root cause…too much tissue acid waste in the body!”- Theodore A. Baroody, N.D., D.C., Ph.D.

Some problems thatcan indicate acidosis include: bladder and kidney conditions, immune deficiency, diabetes, weak brittle bones and lactic acid build up. PH is behind the bodies electrical system, intracellular activity and the way our bodies utilize enzymes, and minerals, and vitamins. That is why pH is one of the first things to be looked at if you are experiencing an imbalance in your body. Decades ago Dr. Otto Warburg, the only physician to ever win two Nobel prizes, proved that cancer can not exist in an alkaline/high pH environment.

We can eat more alkalinic foods which include brocoli, carrots, dried figs, celery, grains and many fruits. On the other
hand, the active ingredient in the soft drink Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8 and it will dissolve a nail in about four days. The phosphates in soft drinks bind to calcium and we can’t absorb it. The typical Western diet is largely composed of acidic or acidifying elements (proteins, cereals, sugars). Alkaline foods such as vegetables are eaten in much smaller quantities; their alkaline content is insufficient to neutralize surplus acids.

Stimulants like tobacco, coffee, tea, and alcohol are also extremely acidifying. When we get angry or stressed we are also making the body ph more acidic. Our ph changes not just from the foods we eat, but due to our emotional states.

Some books worth reviewing at the library include:

Understanding Acid-Base – A medical text on the fundamentals of human blood pH, by Benjamin Abelow, M.D. 1998; Williams &
Wilkins, Baltimore, MD.

The pH Miracle – Balance Your Diet, Reclaim Your Health, by Robert O. Young, Ph.D. 2002, Warner Books, Inc. New York, NY.

Reverse Aging – Scientific Health Methods, by Sang Whang. 1994; Siloam Enterprise, Inc., Englewood Cliffs, NJ.

Acid & Alkaline – An overview of pH and human health by Herman Aihara 1986: George Ohsawa Macrobiotic Foundation, Oroville,
CA.

Try and make healthy choices when shopping and eating out to keep your body ph balanced.

I don’t think mosquitos or ants are ever going to be loved by us. There is a natural repulsion to getting bitten and feeling itchy. No one likes to see ants crawling near food, in the bathroom or disprupting a picnic. Today I was taking a shower and saw an ant on my bathroom floor. I took a spray bottle I use in the shower which was 2-3 teaspoons of moisturizing soap in water and then sprayed it. It stopped moving. I don’t like stepping on ants and this was much easier. (My mom used to vacuum wasps but I don’t like to do that either!).

For mosquito bites, I’ll just put on the gel and it will stop itching right away. Taking b -vitamins supplements is also supposed to stop their attraction . Some people never get bitten by mosquitos. I don’t get many bites but when it happens I like to stop the itch and have the red mark subside asap. Miracle II Soap also has no pesticide smell and the ingredients are safe on the skin.

In the summer, it’s easy to get a heat rash. Sometimes people call this a sweat rash, prickly heat rash or sun rash. First of all, try to wear cotton. If you wear nylon and stay in exercise clothes, your skin can’t breathe. If you do jog, go to the gym or wear a swimsuit , try to get it out of once done , shower and then get into cotton.

Some people easily get a heat rash and others can be in sun or workout for hours and never get one. Using corn starch is effective and oatmeal or miracle ii baths are very good for it. Just don’t take a hot water bath. During the day you can use a cold water compress and if you have the neutralizer, add a little neturalizer to it.

Don’t block your sweat glands and ducts. Heat rash will go away on it’s own but if you subject your body to the same conditions, it can occur again or get aggravated further. Drink water during the day and don’t stay in hot sun too long. Prickly heat rash can happen if you dress your baby in clothing too warm or put too many blankets on him or her, so check and see if your child is overheating. When you are trying to get rid of heat rash be sure to not lather your skin in thick oils that can clog your pores.

There is a misconception that when you have a dust mites rash it’s due to being bitten. Remember that dust mites are very, very tiny so actually the rash is an allergic reaction to their waste materials.

People associate an allergic reaction to breathing problems, sneezing and wheezing but actually allergic reactions can involve skin eruptions as well. With dust mites, if you are allergic this may take the form of watery eyes but also you can get a type of eczema rash problem. The same thing happens with people that have food allergies- some people get respiratory reactions and other people get more little red bumps. Dust mites can do this to you and they are pretty much impossible to see.

What should you do for treating dust mites. First of all, don’t expect to see them. Vacuum the rugs frequently. They may not just reside in the bed. The bed linens and blankets should be washed well and this includes the pillow case. Getting a vinyl cover for the bed from kmart or another discount store will help to keep them getting on your skin.

Aside from treating the home, you need skin relief for the red marks on your body. Oatmeal baths are good to fight the skin irritiation. During the day use a sensitive skin moisturizer and also you can use oils from the health food store. Tumeric is anti-inflammatory and available in capsules.

Hot water is important when you wash the bed sheets and you want to get the water hotter than 140 degrees so adjust the hot water heater. Get a hepa vacuum and remember to change the vacuum bag frequently so they don’t stick around

I’m naturally pretty frugal and I hate to spend more than I need to or waste. I wanted to mention that with the go green miracle ii products, instructions include remembering to dilute the product. Most people are not used to using a concentrated product and are used to pre-mixed products with water. The miracle ii soap needs to be diluted. The founder, Clayton Tedeton, said that people can actually do a face peel by using the soap as-is. This means it is very strong and it has to be diluted down for body care (as well as cleaning of course). I have not tried it for a face peel though people do that for wrinkle reduction.

Jerrry Seinfeld had a funny bit about how we tend to ignore directions. He was saying how people ignore instructions and warnings for things serious. But, when it comes to dry cleaning, people actually seem to take it as gospel. Senifeld said, “The only warning label people really respect is ‘dry-clean only.’ Y’know what I mean? Speed limits, lung cancer, cigarette warnings – your very life is at stake! People go, ‘Ah, the hell with it!’ But dry-clean only? ‘Oh, don’t put that in the wash! It’s dry-clean only! Are you crazy?!”

Anyway, save money and dilute the miracle ii soap. It is an interesting question about why people are so exact about certain areas but completely ignore other ones that may be more critical. For cleaning you just can put 1-2 teaspoons of the miracle 2 soap into a 24 oz spray botle from walmarts and dilute rest of water. For medium size jobs make it an ounce or two. For heavy cleaning projects it can be two to four ounces (again dilute with water). Remember because it suds that you need to add water slowly.

When it comes time to clean house, there is no shortage in choice of cleaning supplies that we can use to help us with the process. Most of them are very helpful and will end up giving us very clean houses. However, most of them also contain very harsh chemicals that, while getting the house clean, are not very good for the environment. If you plan on applying them to surfaces that you will have your family around, you should know about the dangers of the chemicals contained in them.

Unfortunately, many of the commercial cleaning supplies contain chemicals that are extreme health hazards to us and our families. If you breathe them in, even accidentally, they could do severe damage to your lungs and possibly even poison your pets or other members of your family if accidentally ingested.

So how do you know if something contains a chemical cleaner or not, and what type of natural cleaners are good cleaners that will effectively clean your house? A good rule to live off of is to read the active ingredients on the back of your cleaning supplies. If you cannot read any of the words, or if you do not know exactly what the substance does or haven’t heard of it before, you probably are holding a very harsh commercial cleaner in your hands.

Some of the best natural cleaners out there have ingredients like salt, lemon, and orange. The cleaning agent is usually some type of vinegar, particularly distilled, that will cut through grease like it was its job. Additionally, by law, if something states that it is organic, they have the responsibility to prove to the government that all of their ingredients are, in fact, all organically grown. While the system has its flaws and there are many instances where a company claims something is organic when in reality it is not, it is still a good thumb rule to live by.

When you use a go green product, remember it can be concentrated. I know this is true for both “miracle ii soap” as well as Dr Bronner soaps. If you are using the miracle 2 soap on your face, be sure to dilute it as otherwise it can be a skin peel product (which is what some people do intentionally!). Obviously doing a job of washing the floors will require less dilution than to use on your own skin. Think it out when you try to design things. I try to make various spray bottles for different applications – for instance for personal care I use one strength, for kitchen small jobs another and for hard grease cleaning jobs , a max strength version of miracle ii soap .

I am sure for other organic go green cleaners you need to do something similar. Of course this is also good to save money as you use less of the product. Also remember that certain go green products there is peppermint or other oils, you may not want to use these on floors as that can make them slippery! Use common sense.

Also certain products look natural but they have clorox or dangers about requiring ventilation! This is because a lot of commercial products now try to captilize on the go green movement, yet without modifying their chemicals and ingredients. Just throwing in aloe vera or something natural does NOT make it a go green product!

It can sound like a version of the movie Aliens, but scabies are really little mites that bury into your skin in burrows, lay eggs and continue this cycle. Scabies pictures vary because for some people it is tiny little red pimples and for others it can look more like welts. There is also a form of scabies called norwegian scabies which elderly people get.

Scabies are invisible to the eye, so it isn’t easy to tell if you have a scabies rash. What is also disturbing about scabies is that you may not have any symptoms for 4-8 weeks after exposure. This leads to a lot of uncertainty. I’ve spoken with nurses who treated patients with scabies and despite wearing gloves, they say they itch for a few days tremendously afterwards because of a psychological reaction.

Scabies are tiny mites that are contagious and passed via skin contact. They can also be sexually transmitted. Some say that scabies can be caught by wearing clothing of an infected person, sitting on a sofa for a long period of time or sharing towels and bed linens.

A scabies rash can look like red bumps, pimples or little blisters. They may be in the webs of fingers and wrist areas. These areas are often checked first by doctors and dermatologists to do a rash diagnosis. Scabies can be quite itchy due to the allergic reaction. Scratching the itch can result in a secondary rash such as eczema dermatitis or a bacterial skin rash problem.

It is important that all people in the household apply the 5 percent pesticide cream at same time. If this isn’t done, then mites can hop from person to person and this can be a cycle that continues longer than necessary. Bedding and clothing worn during the previous week should be washed in very hot water. Leave in dryer for extra time as well. Put stuffed animals and items that can’t be washed that were contact items into a plastic bag and don’t open it for a few weeks. Use Clorox and vacuum thoroughly to get rid of any mites that straggle. Put a vinyl mattress cover on the bed to not get reinfected if they are in the mattress.

There are natural methods to kill scabies that are reported to both remove the symptoms of scabies as well as to stop the eggs from hatching. For instance, neem oil is said to be effective because it is has contraceptive qualities and will prevent the eggs from hatching. This is used in India, mixed with tumeric. Be careful when using this on the body at bed time as it may stain sheets and bed clothing
